This is an example of two Belemnite fossils in matrix rock. It has been cut to reveal the cross-section of one of the fossils. A second rostrum is visible in the matrix. Unfortunately, I do not have any locality info on this orphaned piece, so I do not know where exactly it is from. Belemnites are a group of cephalopods (squid-like creatures) that lived between the Triassic and Cretaceous periods (approx. 100 million years ago).
