Burmite Amber with Mosquito, Cretaceous Period, Cabochon

This is one (1) polished specimen of fossil Burmese Amber (Burmite). This amber comes from Cretaceous deposits that are approx. 90 to 100 million years old and is some of the oldest fossil amber on Earth.

This piece has inclusions which include a prominent mosquito, an ant, and other unidentified insects. I am not an expert in paleo-insects, so I cannot identify what exact species are present.

This piece would be ideal for study with a loupe or microscope. It would also make a good pendant or ring in the hands of a good lapidary artist.

Refer to the photo. The 1-cm scale cube and ruler are shown for size comparison and are not included. You are purchasing the specimen shown. Your purchase will include an ID label and gemjar for safe storage. This specimen weighs approx. 1.36 grams.
