Since the late 19th century, iron meteorites have been recovered from the area around the Canyon Diablo impact crater in Arizona. The desert around the crater is littered with scraps of nickel iron meteorites. Many thousands of fragments of this material were scattered around the desert and have been found by collectors ober the years. Most of it is solid nickel iron, but occasionally a piece will have a graphite nodule, troilite, or other inclusion.
