Fossil Alligator Osteoderm, Armored Scute, Bone Valley, Holocene


This is an osteoderm from an alligator. These armored scutes cover portions of their bodies. This specimen was recovered while fossil hunting in Florida's Peace River in the famous Bone Valley Formation. It is partially fossilized and likely dates from the Holocene period.
