Fossil Mammoth Toe Bone, Mammuthus Columbi, Pleistocene


This specimen was recovered from the Peace River, Bone Valley Formation, Florida. It is a partial mammoth "toe bone" (mammuthus columbi). It shows some breakage and wear from being submerged in the tannin-rich waters of the river, but it still considered a rare find. This piece was recovered from an area of mixed sandy and clayey Pleistocene deposits and is approx. 13,000+ years old.
