This is a large, uncut, stony meteorite that weighs 393 grams (almost one pound). This stone displays well in several positions and has some remnant fusion crust and a coating of wind-polished desert varnish.
This meteorite was recovered from the Saharan Desert in the early 1990's and has resided in a single collection since it's sale now. I acquired this directly from the owner who bought it on an expedition to Morocco in the days just prior to the gold rush of so-called "NWA" meteorites. This stone is a higher quality than most of those recovered more recently. This specimen has a pleasing dark desert varnish and remnant fusion crust. It is uncut and has only been lightly cleaned with a soft brush to remove sand and dust. It could benefit from a better cleaning, but I don't like to disturb these stones too much during handling. So I will leave a final cleaning to the buyer.
Judging by appearances and magnetic attraction, this meteorite is a H-type chondrite. It has a high degree of magnetic attraction and has many exposed metal nodules on weathered surfaces of the stone. There is also evidence of visible chondrules and prolific chondrule pitting. This is a good degree of probability that this meteorite is type-3 such as H3 or possibly a H3-4.
