This meteorite is an early recovery from beginnings of the Saharan Gold Rush of meteorites. This was prior to the existence of the NWA designation and later information revealed that many of these Saharan-designated meteorites did not have reliable find location data. Because of this, all Saharan meteorites were placed under extra scrutiny for classification, and this led to the NWA catalog designation coming into use. Sahara 99023 was recovered by the Labennes duing an early expediton to the Sahara in 1999. It was the 23rd meteorite of their expedition to be cataloged and it was analyzed as an H5 chondrite. There is very little of this obscure meteorite on the collector market.
