377 million years ago, a massive meteorite impact took place in what is now the Worthington Mountains area of Nevada. At the time, that region was a shallow inland sea. Now, the crater is long eroded from view, but exposures of impact breccia remain to remind us of the cosmic violence that struck this area long before man walked the Americas.
I acquired some small cut pieces of this impact breccia. These make ideal thumbnail specimens.
