Briscoe was first recovered on farmland in rural Briscoe County Texas in 1940. It was later analyzed and classified as a L5 chondrite. The find was described in the Catalog of Meteorites as - "A stone of 1773g was found 16 miles E of Kress, Briscoe Co., H.H. Nininger & A.D. Nininger (1950). Mineralogy: olivine Fa 26^ , B. Mason (1963)." This is one of those Texas meteorites that is not commonly seen on the collector market, although it is not considered rare.
