Covert, Old Kansas Nininger Recovery, Micromount

Meteorites from the location later known as Covert has been found as far back as 1896. They were found in an Osborne County field in rural Kansas. Harvey Nininger eventually learned of the stones and went there to inspect them. Between 1929 and 1931, approx. 30 kilograms of stones and fragments were recovered. This meteorite was analyzed and classified as a H5 chondrite. This is a classic American find that took place early in the legendary Harvey Nininger's tenure as the father of modern meteoritics.
