Fossil Matrix Lot, 1 Kilogram of Unsorted Shells, Pliocene, Tamiami Formation

Adding to cart… The item has been added

This is a lot of mixed fossil seashell specimens that date from the Pliocene period (approx. 2.5 to 4.5 million years ago) and were recovered from deposits in the Tamiami Formation near Sarasota Florida. This material is rough, unsorted matrix material taken from the same deposits that I recovered numerous fossils from.

This lot contains thousands of fragments, partial shells, and complete shells of various small sizes. There are bivalves, gastropods, corals, and misc. pieces. I have not searched this lot because I am only looking for larger specimens (larger than 1-inch). This lot would be ideal for educational use. It weighs a little over 1.1 kilograms (2.4+ pounds). I recommend using a 1/4" screen to sort through the pieces and a 1/8" screen for the smaller pieces.

Refer to the photos. The black centimeter cube is shown for scale and is not included. You are purchasing the entire of bag of material shown. Your purchase will include an ID label.

Note : the last photo shows a giant pile of this material that this lot was taken from.
