Libyan Desert Glass is an impactite from the Great Sand Sea in Libya and Egypt. It has been used since the time of the Pharaohs in making jewelry and adornments. Desert Glass (also called Sahara Glass) was created when a massive meteorite slammed into the Saharan Desert millions of years ago.
The specimen offered here is a wind-sculpted piece that is translucent and would display beautifully with backlighting. It weighs 18.6 grams.
