This is a fossil Megalodon (Carcharocles megalodon) shark tooth recovered from the Peace River in Florida's famous Bone Valley formation. It dates from the Miocene period (approx. 5-23 million years ago).

This tooth has "character" - it has been tumbled around the water for aeons and has been dinged up and polished before turning up in my sifter at a gravel bar in the river. It is not perfect, but it is nearly complete. The black coloration comes from the tannins in the river and is characteristic of most Peace River megs.

This tooth measures 1.25" inches along the diagonal from the root to the tip.

Refer to the photos. The black centimeter cube is shown for scale and is not included. You are purchasing the tooth shown. Your purchase will include an ID label with locality info.
