Moldavite is a beautiful green translucent glass that originates from deposits in the Czech Republic that are associated with the nearby Ries Crater impact structure in Germany. Moldavite was created when a giant meteorite slammed into the Earth and the catastrophic impact fused local minerals (and some of the meteorite) into a green, gemmy material. Over the centuries, moldavite has been prized for it's beauty in jewelry making. The highest quality moldavite is cut into faceted gemstones.
