Plateau Putorana is a rare native iron from the Siberian region of Russia. It was first thought to be a meteorite because of it's plentiful amounts of free unoxidized iron. It has metal veins, blobs, and flecks, just like a mesosiderite meteorite. Lab analysis confirmed it was terrestrial, but it remains a sought-after locality by mineral and meteorite collectors. It is one of the world's finest examples of a "meteorwrong".

This specimen is only polished on one side and most of the metal is visible on the unpolished side. I am not sure why it was prepared this way. It is mostly silicate and is not the best example of this rare material, so I have priced it cheaper than the others I have offered previously. It weighs approx. 21 grams.
