Plateau Putorana is a rare native iron from the Siberian region of Russia. It was first thought to be a meteorite because of it's plentiful amounts of free unoxidized iron. It has metal veins, blobs, and flecks, just like a mesosiderite meteorite. Lab analysis confirmed it was terrestrial, but it remains a sought-after locality by mineral and meteorite collectors. It is one of the world's finest examples of a "meteorwrong".
This specimen is a polished slice that shows regions of iron on both sides, but it mostly concentrated on one side. It weighs approx. 58 grams.
