Ries Crater, Bayern Germany – (diameter : 24km wide, age : 15m years)
The Ries crater is the source for all the Moldavite that is found in the surrounding areas, including the famous deposits in the Czech Republic. The Ries crater is home to several types of impact breccias and glasses.
This specimen is a rare "flaedle" glassy impact bomb. The term "flaedle" comes from a type of local pancake that these specimens resemble. It weighs approx. 40 grams.
