Steinheim impact crater, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany (age : 15m years, diameter : 3.8km)
The Steinheim crater is the smaller sister crater to the nearby and larger Ries crater. It is thought that both craters were formed as part of a rare double-impact event.
The specimen offered here is a fine-grained shattercone set in Malmian limestone. It weighs approx. 32 grams and shows striations on both sides.
