This is a commemorative medal minted for the 125th anniversary of the birth of Leonid Kulik, the famous Russian mineralogist who led the first expedition to the impact zone of the Tunguska event.
This Russian-made medal measures 50mm (2-inch) and is very thick and heavy. One side is engraved with the likeness of Kulik, one of his expedition boats, and some Cyrillic writing, The reverse side shows a color painting of how the impact site looks now and a mixture of Cyrillic and English writing. This medal was made in a limited edition run of 1000.
