This handsome display contains a genuine sample of volcanic rock from the famous 79 AD eruption of Mount Vesuvius that destroyed the Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum. It is a black-colored pumice type of rock.

The display box has a black pebblegrain finish and a glass viewing window. It measures approx. 4x3 inches (100mm x 75mm) and can be opened. Each rock sample is unique and may vary slightly in size/appearance from the example shown. The display contains a color image of a classic painting that depicts the eruption as seen from the perspective of an observer overlooking the scene from the harbour below the city.
