Canyon Diablo meteorites originate from the area around the "Meteor Crater" impact crater in Arizona. The desert around the crater is littered with shrapnels of nickel iron (meteorites). When the giant iron impactor slammed into the desert floor, the resulting catastrophic explosion vaporized a large portion of the meteorite. Many thousands of fragments of this material was scattered around the desert.
The specimen offered here is an etched slice with a glittering inclusion near one edge (visible in one of the photos). It has some slight oxidation along the natural edge but is overall stable. It weighs 30 grams and measures approx. 36mm x 36mm at it's widest points and is approx. 3.5mm thick.
