Seymchan meteorites were first recovered from the Magadan district of Russia in 1967. It was analyzed and classified as an Iron IIE. Many years later, more pieces were found and the new pieces contained olivine crystals. It was then that scientists realized that Seymchan was actually a pallasite, and the older pieces they found lacked olivines. Seymchan was reclassified as a pallasite and numerous examples with olivines have been found since then. Seymchan is typically found in three forms : all iron (siderite), pallasite, and transitional (containing zones of both).
This specimen is a transitional piece with fresh green olivines along one edge. The iron portion has been etched. It weighs 8 grams and measures approx. 37mm x 16mm x 4mm at it's widest points.
