La Brea Tar Pits Display, Natural Asphaltum Sample

This is a sample of natural tar (asphaltum) from the world famous La Brea Tar Pits in California, USA. For tens of thousands of years, this natural oil has seeped up from the ground and collected in pools. Many animals became trapped in the tar and died. Their perfectly-preserved remains are still found and studied today. Here is a chance to own a small piece of the tar pits without visiting California.

It measures approx. 3 inches by 4 inches and has a handsome black pebblegrain finish. It has a glass viewing window and the tar specimen is inside the case with a color photo of the Tar Pits. Note, each sample consists of many small fragments contained in a pill capsule.
