This is a section of fossilized "petrified" wood that was recovered from the Peace River in Florida's famous Bone Valley formation (Hardee County, Hawthorn Group). The exact species of this specimen is not identified, but it likely dates from the Pliocene or Pleistocene periods (many thousands or millions of years old).

This example is the longest and nicest piece I have ever found. It is 5 inches long (approx. 125mm) and is rock solid. It "sings" when struck. You can see lots of wood grain details and remnants of growth rings are visible on the butt end. It weighs approx. 104 grams.

Refer to the photo. The black centimeter cube is shown for scale and is not included. You are purchasing the specimen shown. Your purchase will include an ID label with locality info.
