The Smokey Spring meteorite was found on a desert ridge in rural Nevada in 2011 by a man with a metal detector searching for gold nuggets. It was a single, weathered stone find that weighed only 254 grams (about a half pound) before cutting. It was analyzed and classified at UCLA by Dr. Alan Rubin as a H4 chondrite that is moderately shocked.
